Details

Dicks at 290 Sanchez Street had the distinction of being the last straight bar (despite its name) to turn gay around 1995 when it became the Jackhammer. It was characterized by the Queer Resource Directory rather quaintly as a “working man’s bar.” But in truth, the bar in some ways seemed to have more of a South of Market vibe; one of its regular events was their “Red Hanky Night” for fisting enthusiasts.

The bar didn’t last long. It eventually became a series of restaurants, including Dairmaru Sushi for a time before the owner decided to go back to his roots as a Chinese restaurateur and revamp as Makli Chinese Cuisine.
